The “slow” feature of Maridiana is that it is an alpaca livestock that invites its guests, and especially their children, to play freely with these clean, peaceful and funny animals.
Participating in the activities regarding their care, their feeding and walking with a rope tied to a halter.
All of this is done safely.
From alpaca and mohair goats Marisa and Gianni obtain the fiber to use for the manufacturing of fine clothes, which are 100% natural, anallergic and Made in Italy, which can be purchased at the shop of the farm business.
Available upon request, there are classes for animal management, carding and spinning, natural dyeing, weaving and textile tours.
As business actively engaged in its territory, Maridiana Alpaca creates and participate in events and thematic itineraries with tasting of typical products, tours and workshops organized at craftsman laboratories.

Our staff speak English fluently and fairly well French and German.
When necessary it is possible to ask for a native speaker guide.
Maridiana holiday homes implement the criteria of sustainable development and energy saving.
Houses are equipped with solar panels, informative materials for fair and efficient management of energy sources, all the necessaries for recycling and use/protection of green areas.
We produce mulch, we change linen weekly and we offer free WiFi.
The green areas are accessible by all.
The valorization of the territory is a prerogative of our tourism business and is completed by the promotion of local typical products.
Maridiana offers additional initiatives and opportunities:
- Vegetable garden: our guests can freely pick the available products.
- The Wool Route: it about a 1 km walk (medium – low difficulty) within the business property, an itinerary equipped with signs, that allow one to appreciate while surrounded by the invigorating smell of nature, and in the shade of woods along the animals’ paths and the beautiful landscape offered by Niccone valley.
For longer walks different of lengths and difficulty levels there are signed paths start from Maridiana that cross woods and pasture and reach the top of the hills from where it is possible to enjoy wonderful views.
- Cooking Class: available upon request, Marisa organizes a cooking class where it is possible to learn Umbrian traditional recipes and techniques through the expert guidance of two house chefs. Dinner will follow.
Cooking classes are organized on Wednesday, when the farmer’s market is organized, to buy the best seasonal products.
- Cocktail with Alpaca "POMaridiana": from may to September.
Twice a week Maridiana Alpaca organizes a cocktail on the playground balcony with presentations and tastings of typical products of the members of Le Vie del Buon Gusto.
This last is an association that promotes the territory, and Maridiana partners with it.
Open also to visitors, this is an opportunity to present alpacas, local productions and products.
Maridiana began its activity in 1983 when Gianni and Marisa Berna decided to leave the chaotic city of Rome for a more satisfying and healthy life in the Umbrian countryside.
Maridiana was the first farm business to introduce the first alpaca livestock in Italy in 1995.
In 2011, Maridiana was certified 4 Spighe /4 stars) by the Umbria Region in recognition of the high standard reached with the offered services.
Maridiana offers its guests two beautiful renovated stone farmsteads located within the 30 hectare property. Each farmstead can comfortably host 5-6 people: it has an independent garden and a private balcony with a breath-taking view of Valle de Niccone.
Maridiana’s farmsteads are two-story traditional country houses built in the XVIII century.
On the ground floor, where thethe stables used to be, there is a big living area: living room, dining room and the kitchen.
On the first floor are the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The farmsteads are fully furnished, with bed sheets and towels.
All bathrooms, 2 per each house, have plenty of hot water and they are tiled with white majolica.
The kitchens are spacious and they are fully equipped.
Each farmstead has its own laundry machine, independent heating system, a large private garden with a private entrance and a parking spot.
Gianni e Marisa rent the whole farmsteads even to only two people to ensure their privacy.
In this case a discount of 20% is foreseen or a cost between 35 and 50 € per person (per night) based on the season.
The high valley of the Tevere is an area between Umbria and Tuscany still preserved and undiscovered.
Here it is possible to visit Etruscan and Roman remains, castles and Medieval villages, monasteries and abbeys, villas and building from the Renaissance period, woods and wild valleys.
The historic and artistic towns of Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Gubbio, Sansepolcro, Cortona, Arezzo are only between 30 and 60 minutes by car.
Maridiana is half way from Florence (150km) and Rome (200 km) and it is 130 km away from Siena and 140 from Ancona.
Swimmming pool and Tennis. 10 minutes by car from Maridiana, in Umbertide, where there is a public swimming pool very well-equipped for both adults and children, with pools, water slides, cafès and green areas. Next to the pool are indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
Golf. 20 minutes by car, next to a beautiful restored medieval castle, there is an exclusive golf court with 18 holes.
Horseback riding. 15 minutes by car there are two centers, very well-equipped, for lessons or rides, for both children and adults.
Sailing, surf and boating. 30 minutes from Meridiana, in Tuoro on Trasimeno lake, it is possible to practice sailing, windsurfing or enjoying a ride in a boat.
