The farmhouse Gargaleo is a certified organic farm since 1994.
From the same year is a member constituent of the “SEI on Sinni” association, that promotes the Slow food of pear lady and participate in the initiatives proposed by the Slow Foods of Matera, such as open days.
Since 2009 it is also a petting zoo, Masseria Gargaleo is the only company in Basilicata that complement each laboratory with a puppet show for children.
In the farmhouse there is also a rich farming museum with artifacts dating back even to the seventeenth century (like a torch of resin and tow) and rarities like the cardalana and other tools for weaving, a pigiatabacco and barrels for water transport.
In addition to visiting the farm museum, it’s also possible to make a visit to the badlands in the company, to discover together the hydrogeological characteristics, fauna and flora typical of this particular ecosystem.
Among the workshops offered, in addition to those of creative recycling (how to make kites, puppets, furnishings), to learning how to make natural soap, to dye fabrics, and to prepare food (bread and pasta) and/or keep (jams, pickled).
In summer there is the puppet workshop for children: a way to explain the beauty of the Mediterranean diet and eating fruits and vegetables, all while parents are dedicated to the visit to the farm museum.
In the apartments guests use natural soap.
To the holders of Slow Tourism Passport there is 10% discount (except from 20 July to 20 August). Complimentary for guests it is a free visit to the farm museum.
Gargaleo is located in Nova Siri (MT) in the San Basile- Gargaleo.The property is managed directly from the property, with a great attention to the reception of guests, which cares in choosing the most suitable activities offered by their territory.The two apartments are carefully furnished, also using antique furniture and modern art, to make guests feel at home.The apartment Lentisco has two rooms with 4-6 beds, fireplace, air conditioning, equipped kitchenette, TV, private entrance and bathroom.The apartment Carubbo is a studio with 2-3 beds, equipped kitchenette, air conditioning, color TV, private entrance and bathroom.They have their own entrance on the threshing floor, equipped with tables and chairs, drying room, laundry on request; guests can still walk along the tracks to the badlands business or to a small pond or streams running through it.On request will be given organic fruits and vegetables freshly picked for the table.
The farmhouse Gargaleo does not offer meal services, but has several agreements with local restaurants at reasonable prices.
Gargaleo is the ideal place in which to enjoy the relaxation of the countryside, the sea and culture of medieval villages of great charm with a few minutes ride.The sea, with wide golden beaches free or equipped is less than a 5-minute drive.Within 10 km there are: Nova Siri and its medieval village, the sixteenth-century tower, the ruins of Roman baths, Policoro and the Museum of Siris, Rocca Imperiale and the castle of Frederick IIWithin 20-30km: Roseto Capo Spulico and the medieval castle, Tursi and Rabatana Arab quarter, The thirteenth-century sanctuary of the Madonna of Anglona, Valsinni and the literary park of Isabella Morra, Colobraro, a country that does not have to name because it would lead misfortune.
