Maridiana Alpaca is located in the Niccone Valley, at the centre of the High Tiber Valley, north of Umbria.
The Agriturism is composed by two stone farmhouses, elegantly restored respecting the rural tradition, in the centre of a large farm where alpacas are bred for the use of their soft fibres.
This docile and clean animals are for the guests and their children a friendly and pacific companions: it is infact possible to intervene in the breeding activities, feed the animals and bring them around by the halter, all in total safety and freedom.
Also, and specifically for this, the Agritourism is a perfect choice for families with children.
The fibres produced by the alpacas are utilized to produce artisanal garments, 100% natural, that are sold in the small farm shop.
Besides the organization of workshops for the management of the alpacas, Maridiana is also active in the world of natural textiles, proposing (on request) experiences of carding, spinning, natural dying, weaving, and felting; further it organizes visits to the textile museums and artisanal laboratories in Umbria and Tuscany.
Maridiana promotes also an active tourism, within the responsibility and sustainability concepts, aimed at the exploitation of the eno-gastronomic and panoramic peculiarities of the areas of the High Tiber Valley and Trasimeno Lake.
Maridiana Alpaca creates and participates to specific itineraries and events, like wine, oil and food tasting by the local producers and visits to local arts-craft laboratories, like ceramic, wood and metal.
In the management of the Agritourism the criteria of sustainability and energy saving are followed, in line with the philosophy of the Slow Tourism Association.
Services offered:
VEGETABLE GARDEN: the guests can use freely the products available, according to season, in the vegetable garden of the farm.
PLAYGROUND FOR CHILDREN: the large playground available in the farm, constituted by a shaded lawn, swings and a slide, is accessible at all times of the day. In the playground also the alpacas can stay free with the children.
SHOP OF NATURAL FIBERS GARMENTS: the Maridiana shop proposes garments produced with the fibres (alpaca, mohair, wool) derived from the animals in the farm.. The fibres, in their natural colours, are processed by local small factories, without using any chemical product.
TREKKING AND RIDING EXCURSIONS: Maridiana Alpaca proposes six different itineraries (for any type of request) which allow a panoramic tour of the Niccone Valley in between pastures, forests, olive trees, old remaining and medieval fortresses, Etruscan tumbs, protostoric sites and antiques sacred places. Thanks to the cooperation with A.S.D. Sport Equestri “Valle del Carpina”, there are at disposal of the guests a series of possibilities for riding lessons or excursions.
ENOGASTRONOMY AND COOKING CLASS: on request, it is possible to organize a cooking class aimed to teach the umbrian traditional recipes and methods, with the dinner to follow. Infact, the class is run on the afternoon, at 4pm, on Wednesday, after having been in the morning in the local market for purchasing the fresh seasonal products. From May to September, on request, Maridiana organizes an aperitif on the playground terrace, with tasting and presentation of the local wines and products. It is also possible to have all the information on the best offers of the area for restaurants, wineries, oil-mills, food shops and local markets.
Maridiana initiated his agricultural and the agriturism activities in 1983, when Gianni and Marisa Berna decided to leave Rome for a more rewarding life in the Umbrian countryside.
Thanks to the high standards of quality offered, the Agriturismo has obtained in the years important certifications: the brand “Qualità Italiana” of the Chamber of Commerce of Umbria, the “4 Spighe” (4 Stars) from the Umbria Region in 2011, the “Green Quality” standard obtained by Slow Tourism Association.
Maridiana offers for renting two large houses built in local stones, elegantly restored, situated at the center of a farm of 20 hectares: in order to offer the best privacy and freedom the full house is rented.
Each farmhouse can host comfortably 6 people and has an independent garden and private terrace with a large panorama on the Niccone Valley.
The buildings are traditional farmhouses, built on the 18th Century, in two floors.
At the groundfloor there is a spacious living area with sitting room, dining room and kitchen.
At the first floor there are two or three large bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The houses are completely furnished and offer all the comforts: free wi-fi, kitchen complete of dishes, cutleries and utensils, washing machine, dishwasher, laundry and autonomous heating system.
The High Tiber Valley is a corner of Umbria and Tuscany of various different environments: forests and hills interconnect with large and fertile plains with rivers and torrents.
A territory full of history and monuments, in which it is possible to visit etruscan and roman sites, castles and medioeval villages, monastries and churches, museums, renaissance palaces and villas.
Maridiana is located in a very strategic position, half way from Florence (150 km) and Rome (200 km) and around 100 km from Siena and Ancona.
All the major attractions of Umbria and of the nearby Tuscany are easily reachable: the art cities of Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Gubbio, Sansepolcro, Cortona and Arezzo are distant only 30 to 60 minutes driving..
For the open air sports lovers, at short distance from Maridiana there are the major Natural Parks of Umbria: the Park of Lake Trasimeno and those of Monte Cucco, Monte Subasio and Monte Tezio and various others natural areas and reserves.
At 5 minutes by car from Maridiana, in the center of Umbertide, it is active the communal swimming pool and tennis courts.
The swimming pool is modern, with internal and external pools, slides, gardens, bar and small ristoro.
At 20 minutes drive is available a golf field at 18 holes, near the magnificent Antognolla medioeval castle recently restored.
At only 10 minutes drive from Maridiana it s also available the horse riding center, well equipped for riding lessons or trekking, both for children and adults.

Mid-season (01/04 - 31/05 and 01/09 - 31/10) weekly 700 euro, 100 euro daily. High season (20/12 - 06/01 and 01/06 - 31/08 and Easter weekend) weekly 1000 euro, 145 euro daily.
