Well Done
Staying at Fondacci farmhouse means having the opportunity to spend a vacation in a natural landscape and in very well-taken-care of indoor spaces. Common rooms are the final result of restoration works and sustainable transformations, through a change from rural to residential use. Maria, Valter and Paolo Bicchecchi, owners of the business for several generations, had strongly desired the structure obtained from the old stable to be made of natural stones. Attached to it is the old two-storey barn: on the first level there is the entrance decorated with natural rock coming from the old quarry in Monovolo and proficiently worked by hand by several stone cutters during 1940s. On the second level is a spacious and bright dining room realized with a splendid view on Reno valley. Guests who decide to have their vacation at Fondacci farmhouse will receive a friendly welcome and all the information on the most important initiatives that will take place in the territory during their stay. They will also be able to take part in typical product cooking classes, hikes, trekking, and itineraries created by CAI (Italian Alpine Club) even on mules and mountain bike tracks.
Fondacci farmhouse is located in the Tosco Emiliano Apennines (province of Bologna) in Grizzana Morandi municipality. The tourism business comes from the restoration of an old stone stable. It is 550 m above sea level, only 10 minutes from SS 64.
Fondacci farmhouse is completely surrounded by the green of Montovolo mountains, known for the sanctuary dedicated to Saint Caterina and a Provincial natural Park.
At Fondacci farmhouse it is possible to enjoy typical seasonal cooking from Emilia with few local variations. For example the local sweet dish “Peppina” is made with a typical family recipe, the “tigelle crescentine”, a kind of bread still made with wheat ground at the mill, fried polenta, tagliatelle rigorously made with a rolling pin, with the typical bolognese sauce or with sausages and, if in season, with mushrooms and truffles.
Maria, Valter and Paolo propose to their guests a variety of homemade products: tagliatelle, tortelloni, tortellini, maccheroncini, jams, sweets and their own vegetables and bread. Breakfast is enriched by delicious jams and cakes, all homemade, of course.
The typical menu for lunch costs about 25€ , wine is not included, and consists of: appetizer with fried polenta and cold cuts produced by the owners and without gluten; as a first course tagliatelle, tortelloni or maccheroncini; as a second course meat, cheese and eggs from the area. As side dish there are seasonal vegetables plus water and coffee.
For 18€ for dinner fried crescentine or tigelle are offered together with cold cuts, cheese, vegetables and jam. The wine menu includes doc wine: Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pignoletto, San Pietrino frizzante.
Upon request it is possible to order deer and wild boar. There is also available to the guests a vegetarian menu made with garden products and fruit.
Fondacci offers a variety of nearby tourism attractions. For those who love slow tourism in the city there are Bologna, Pistoia, Zocca e Porretta Terme. Not to miss the are the mountains of Corno alle Scale and Montovolo. Easy to reach is the sanctuary of Saint Caterina located on top of Montovolo, the old medieval village of Scola and the peculiar Castel of Ricchetta with its arabesque towers.
Not too far from Brasimone lake there is the basin of Suviana with Saltapicchio park where adventurous people can try the thrill of “albering” (walking on paths built on trees). For lovers of winter tourism not far away is the Corno alle Scale park, with its relevant skiing station.
4 comfortable bedrooms (3 double, one single) are available at Fondacci farmhouse. They all have private bathroom while being equipped to protect the environment: heating is from eco-friendly boilers and solar panels.
One of the room can host people with disabilities. The price for overnight stay plus breakfast is 25€ per person, single rate. Breakfast and Wi Fi are included in the price.
